On Facebook tonight I had the pleasure of being banned for 24 hours. I really need to stay off there anyway.

I had posted a map that detailed vaccinations numbers. Somehow the posts that followed digressed to the number of dead in NY and the US. One woman was asserting that NY deaths were lowered and the US numbers had been exaggerated. Yes I am aware of the NY Governor’s ongoing controvery. That does not change the number of dead due to Covid in the state. …

Tucker Carlson — Who apparently has little use for Dr. Jill Biden, various doctorate degrees and merticracy. . .

Oh my God. I just flipped to Fox and Tucker is going on and on about Dr Jill Biden and her dissertation. Critiquing her math skills and so forth. Basically asserting that she is stupid and a fraud.

WTF. . .

What the hell? On national TV. And she serves no role in Biden’s government. She is our President-Elects spouse. I feel sorry for Dr Biden. Tucker was talking some serious shit.

And his intent was obvious. He wanted to insult Dr Biden, insult her husband — President-Elect Joe Biden, ridicule a PhD in education — obviously not a real…

Since I saw the above meme it has bothered me. Intuitively, I just felt it wrong. It took awhile but what follows is in part an attempt to flesh out what that initial intuitive response, an unpacking of it. In short I go after two themes: That Biden, as a Senator and then as Vice President, did what was needed, and that the person or in this case the meme asking such questions has chosen to ignore history or simply does not know the history.

In the 90s? Biden was involved in the infamous crime bill, which he acknowledges was…

Why is Trump so bad? Why do people hate him? I know for myself I do not hate the man. I just have little use for the man, his administration or his policies. Hate is too strong a word. Hate is reserved for those who personally betray a love, or who take a loved one. Though he does I fear endanger a country I love, he has not, luckily, cost me a loved one as of yet. So, if to hate is as I describe, it is not hate that I feel. Perhaps more fear, dread. . .

There…

For those of you saying that Trump is great for the economy, I suggest you ponder this: TikTok.

His latest use of national security to challenge the market and the concept of private property.

It was because of national security concerns that he insisted that an American firm take ownership of the firm. He wanted the data in American servers and owned by an American firm. If it failed to meet those two criteria, it would not be allowed to do business in the United States.

That threat, that demand is huge in itself. I do not believe that TikTok…

Maybe it is time. Instead of an election just have an implosion. I am tired. We lost a woman who effected all of us. She did some significant work both before the bench and on the bench. And what do we hear about? Whether the President and Mitch McConnell can confirm a Justice before the election.

Which, if it were not for Mitch McConnell would be a no-brainer.

Regardless, neither the weekend nor this week have involved much reflection upon the work she did, the arguments she made, the dissents she wrote, but rather whether McConnell has the votes. …

Protests were happening everywhere in the US this summer. This one was in Anchorage Alaska and is courtesy of the Anchorage Daily News The original caption follows: “Friday night’s protest drew a large crowd to the Martin Luther King memorial on the Delaney Park Strip. (Marc Lester / ADN)”

This past Saturday, I offered up something, But It Is Still There, that all but stated my intent. It was an initial attempt at summing up this summer, the summer of 2020. In the essay, I chose to point to what I was focused upon as opposed to explicitly asserting it.

I thought that such was more appropriate as I felt that for many what I was pointing at was in fact not there. Many, I believe are either unable to recognize it or have chosen to ignore what I was pointing at. Many I believe simply want to deny…

The phlox and the anemone are still in bloom.

Labor Day weekend. Typically ending with one last barbecue, one more time hanging out on the deck. One more Corona. Doing our thing one more time even if it is no longer the heat of July. Even if it is getting dark a little earlier.

This year, however, is different. Oh perhaps folks will still get together but it is done with a certain consciousness. Regardless of whether they take COVID seriously or not. Even those who think it a conspiracy or something that will not effect them, they are still conscious of it, of its risks. …

It looks like tomorrow the President is going to Kenosha WI. I imagine he will survey the damage and I am guessing he will praise the work of law enforcement — specifically the Kenosha Police Department. Just seems like the right thing to do. Maybe I am wrong.

Makes perfect sense that he would. It began with a Kenosha Police Officer shooting a man in the back. Seven times. Two officers trying to make an arrest, he resist, he might be going for a weapon — shoot him seven times, in the back. OK shit happens. Mistakes are made. …

Forgive me this silliness, but why are we voting in an election where one of the candidates is asserting at the start that the only way he can lose is if the election is rigged?

Why would anyone participate in such a process? It is absurd. If the election is rigged, then I am not voting. I will not cast a vote unless I hear both candidates assert that the election is not rigged, that all votes will be counted and that they will accept the results of the election.

If either candidate is not able to commit to that…
